On Rails Ruins Umbrella Chronicles
Posted by 120911, 109 days ago Dec 31, 1969 18:00
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles Game Play: 5 This game was a complete letdown. Maybe it’s due to the fact that I played R.E. 4 right before the Chronicles. My main problem with this game is that I truly dislike the on-rails concept. I like having more freedom in my character’s movements, instead of having the game dictate where I go. Graphics: 7 The graphics of this game were decent, but nowhere near the precision of R.E. 4. The boss battles were especially weak; there was nothing extraordinary about the graphics brought to the table. Sound: 7 The sound effects were implemented well enough. They were not very dynamic, however. They had a ‘tinny’ sound quality to them. Bombs, guns, etc., all sounded pretty much the same. Difficulty: Difficult Concept: 5 The game’s concept is pretty simple . . . find zombies and various creatures and defeat them. The story line is basically the cliff notes from all the previous R.E. installments. Even though I did not play any of previous games (sans R.E. 4), the other stories did not compare to the latter. Furthermore, I hate spiders and there were way too many of them for my tastes. Overall: 6 After being amazed at R.E. 4 from a game play and story line standpoint, I was really disappointed in the Chronicles. In fact, I quit playing after about eight hours of game play. I found it boring and redundant. I’ll hold out for R.E. 5, which I’m sure will astound me as R.E. 4 had done. Objectives Completed: 12
