Ubisoft today announced that it was releasing it’s sword swinging title Beowulf which is based off the cinematic adventure developed by Paramount Pictures and Shangri-La Entertainment and directed by Robert Zemeckis.
Ubisoft’s Beowulf promises to remain true to the spirit and imagery of the cinematic version while creating an experience that will immerse players inside the legendary epic story of the warrior Beowulf. The game, which was created by the same design team responsible for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter game at Ubisoft’s Tiwak studio. Beowulf the game will also carry content that contains story information not viewable in the movie or the tale the film was based on the carries the story of Beowulf forward 30 years into the future.
The purpose of the added story content included in the game is explained by the words of Sandi Isaccs, the Senior Vice President interactive and mobile for Paramount Pictures, who stated that “"The Beowulf video game extends and complements the motion picture experience beyond the silver screen.” She went onto say that "Our goal has always been to provide fans with authentic and compelling game play timed to coincide with the opening of our film, and this game delivers on this promise."
Tony Key, the senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft, also expressed his views on the project with these words: “Today is an exciting day for Ubisoft as we launch the Beowulf video game alongside the release of the Beowulf movie. Working closely with Paramount Pictures and Shangri-La Entertainment has allowed us to breathe new life into this ancient tale, creating an amazing gaming experience that will extend Beowulf’s adventures for fans of both the epic poem and the new feature film."
