The PlayStation Portable, Sony’s portable nemesis to the Nintendo DS, has been struggling recently and we have seen early signs of Sony’s ideas about revamping the PSP to make it a true competitor to the Nintendo DS. Some of those ideas have been seen through new upcoming games, new services, and even a rumor of an entirely new hardware update. The newest idea Sony is pondering on is a game rental service based right on your PSP.
It is supposedly a subscription based game rental service that would allow the rentee to rent a certain number of games during your subscription period. Once your subscription period ends, you will be able to change the games you chose in the previous period to play through some other games.
The survey presented by Sony to get a feel for gamer’s interest in the service also suggested that the rental service would launch with an extensive catalogue of games, and this would be updated every month. The survey mostly focuses on details such as these, and seems to be hinting there will be a rental service but Sony just wants to see exactly what consumers want to perfect the service.
The new services and new revampication of the PlayStation Portable hopes to bring back the PSP and make it more mainstream/more appealing to younger kids that the DS now owns the market for. Although much of the rumors are coming and the facts have come in about how Sony is updating the PSP, there will surely be more information to come from the E3 expo this summer, and you better believe TGR has a team that will be storming the expo for more information on the “new” PSP.
