Metroid has been one of Nintendo’s major franchises for forever. Most players grew up playing the little lady dressed in a super hardcore shooter suit in a crazy expansive environment on the NES. The Metroid series has consisted of a ton of different games on a ton of different systems spanning across Nintendo’s lifespan, and now a couple of them will return to the Nintendo Wii.
Nintendo announced today that the two Metroid games that were originally for the Nintendo Gamecube will be re-released for the Nintendo Wii with all new motion controls.
Retro Studios and Nintendo, the developers of the original games, are working on the trilogy re-release. Nintendo and Retro will be putting the two gamecube games, Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime: Echoes, and the Nintendo Wii game, Metroid: Corruption onto one disc with new unlockables and of course updated controls and widescreen support for the older two games. The game’s new unlockables will come in the form of unlockable music and artwork the player will receive upon achieving in-game goals.
Retro Studios and Nintendo have also announced the release date. Metroid Prime Triology, which again will consist of Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime: Echoes, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, will be hitting stores this summer on August 24for the price of $49.99.
So, for all you video game fans out there who haven’t got a chance to enjoy the awesomeness that is the Metroid Prime series, now you have a great opportunity to play the games using the motion controls. It can’t get any better than that, my friends.
