Nintendo Store Update: Clay Fighter, Retro Remakes
Posted by Lawrence Sonntag, 183 days ago May 25, 2009 10:09

Nintendo’s online stores have been updated with one Virtual Console title, two WiiWare games, and two DSiWare games (well, one game and one clock).

The lone Virtual Console title this week is the Sega Genesis version of Clay Fighter ($8) - known for being recorded in stop-motion claymation and having an oddly catchy and bizarre theme song.

For some reason I really liked this game as a child. How 90s.

WiiWare receives two titles today, each an updated classic. Bubble Bobble Plus ($6), a game that sensibly revolves around dinosaurs trapping monsters in bubbles and popping them, includes the original 100 stages, 100 new stages, and four-player multiplayer. Unsatisfied players can also purchase two level packs with 50 extra-difficult stages each.

Adventure Island: The Beginning ($8) is a 3D remake of the NES Adventure Island, though the difficulty has been reduced. Apparently drunken Wii Sports players are breaking enough Wii remotes that difficult games didn’t need to help. I feel compulsed here to say that the main character of this game is named Master Higgins. Is that an awesome name or what?

DSiWare’s offerings this week aren’t as nostalgic. First up is American Popstar: The Road to Celebrity ($8) from Gameloft. Before you scoff at the title and the fact that it’s a two-year-old cellphone title, be aware that IGN awarded it Best Story of 2007.

The second title on Nintendo’s camera’d console is Photo Clock ($2), which does exactly what you’d think it would. The software both keeps track of time (like a clock) and displays pictures in the DSi library (y’know, photos).
