Via CVG and Joystiq, the Executive Producer of Bioshock 2, Alyssa Finley, revealed that dying at the hands of Rapture’s minions is going to be considerably easier in Bioshock 2 than its predecessor. That is, of course, if you want it to.
In the original Bioshock for the Xbox 360, even at the most difficulty setting the game was still a little bit too easy primarily because it was impossible to die. Whenever a Big Daddy stomped you to death, you would be instantly whisked back to an earlier check point (called Vita-Chambers) and respawn without any penalty. Downloadable content would later allow gamers to to disable these checkpoints, and Playstation 3 gamers had the choice from the very beginning.
It looks like developers 2K have learned that gamers want a little bit of challenge from their video games because in Bioshock 2, the selection to turn off Vita-Chambers will be available from the start. While gamers can forgo this option and technically bounce from one Vita-Chamber to the next without regard for health or ammunition, veteran fans of the series will probably appreciate 2K’s decision to include a more "hardcore" experience.
Bioshock 2, which is scheduled to be released in October 2009 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC, will allow gamers to don the metal diving suit (and trademark humongous drill) of the Big Daddy as you explore the anarchic ruins of Rapture . Not just any Big Daddy, mind you, but the original Big Daddy. What this means, exactly, is still largely unknown, but the developers have emphasized that the Big Daddy you play as is considerably more agile than the rusty behemoths you fought in the first Bioshock.
