While it’s not as how-many-games-can-we-physically-stuff-into-a-single-month packed as last year, November 2009 is still a silly kind of busy. There’s five of the year’s biggest releases for us to try and consume in Dragon Age, Assassin’s Creed II, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Left 4 Dead 2, and – of course – Modern Warfare 2. Happily – or maybe worryingly if you’re as pressed for time as I am – none of them are set to disappoint.
No-one does fantasy role-playing games like BioWare, so Dragon Age was always going to be a cert. Last week, both Assassin’s Creed 2 and NSMB Wii caught the attention at London’s Eurogamer Expo, so I’ve got no worries there. As for L4D2 and Modern Warfare 2, if they are anything as good as their predecessors then they’ll do the business.
These big-hitters are obviously going to dominate, but what about the little gems that will be vying desperately for whatever’s left of our attention? Just how good is the PSP version of LittleBigPlanet going to be? I suspect Sony will simply be content if it has a quiet launch given the shambles the PS3 version went through. What about the two LEGO games? Or the new F1? There are plenty of interesting stories brimming under the AAA titles looking pretty on the surface. Not forgetting October’s superb line-up which is certainly still trying to get my attention. With Uncharted 2, FIFA 10 and Borderlands still on my playlist, November is going to be yet another juggling act.
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
