Racing Styles and Types
Introduction …
Welcome racers … to Palmont City. Up until now you have been racing on level ground … but now … get ready for a new style of racing … that offers that extra level of racing, style and speed … get ready to hit the streets and canyons of Palmont City as you enter this Complete Guide for Need For Speed Carbon.
Racing Styles
There are 14 different styles and types of race in Palmont City. They vary in difficulty, technique and length … here is a list of the race types available to you in this game.
Circuit – Lap based racing. Eight racers drive around a set course for x amount of laps.
Sprint – Point to point racing. Eight racers speed through the streets to get from the start to the finish in as little time as possible.
Drift – Utilize the ultimate combination of handbrake, speed and turning to get your car sideways as you slide around the track. Getting the highest possible speeds and getting your car into the biggest slide possible for the longest time possible is what all drifters aim to achieve.
Speedtrap – Similar to Sprint racing … except this time your ultimate goal is to get the highest speed possible as you pass by each speed camera (speedtrap). The highest overall average speed wins. Be careful … once the first racer crosses the line, points are deducted ever moment or so from the drivers still on the track.
Checkpoint – Similar to Sprint … except this time you must get past each tollbooth in time. As you pass each one you receive extra time to reach the next. It is essential that you do not miss one.
Canyon Sprint – Race down the side of a canyon against four other racers in an all out duel to the finish. In Canyon Sprint there are boundaries so falling off is not an issue.
Canyon Checkpoint – Race down the side of a canyon against the clock to pass each tollbooth on time.
Canyon Drift – Forget the track … this style of race requires ultimate handling and precision driving. Just like track based drift except this time … you race down the canyon as you try to hit the highest speeds while keeping clear of the edges and mountain walls. Be careful though … the edges of the canyon are fragile … one slip and your car goes over the edge and your race is over!
Canyon Duel – Forget whatever you knew about street racing. The ultimate test of a racer’s skill comes down to this. A two-part race … one against one. The first part involves one racer speeding down the canyon to get the largest possible gap between his rival as he drives to the bottom of the mountain … all while the other racer tries to stay as close as possible. In the second part … the hunter becomes the hunted and vice versa. The racer with the highest score takes home the win. If either racer falls off the side of the mountain, it is considered an automatic win for the other racer. Similarly, if the racer trying to “get away” is overtaken for 10 seconds (without the racer regaining first place) then the racer who overtook the “hunted” racer wins. In addition, if the race trying to “get away” gains a large enough gap, and is able to keep this gap for 10 seconds, he will automatically win the race.
Race Wars – A circuit race with a twist. A race war will involve a large scale circuit with an extraordinary turn-out of racers. Nineteen other racers to be exact … and three laps.
Pursuit Evasion – A traditional police chase. Once the chase has started use what ever you can, let it be speed, force and pursuit breakers to get the Five-O away.
Trade Paint – Simply put, a method of counting how many patrol police cars you have hit during a chase.
Pursuit Knockout – A Knockout race with a twist. For starters, in a Pursuit Knockout, the last racer to complete the lap will be automatically converted into a police car. This will continue until there is one racer still remaining in their street car. Once this is done the racer must complete two laps of the race before the time is over. In the time of the race … all police cars must aim to bump, smash and block the racers … hopefully stopping the final racer before the time is out.
Pursuit Tag – One racer becomes the street racer … and all others Police. It is up to the street racer to evade the police for the longest time possible. The Police Car which “Busts” (gets the street racer in a stationary position for a certain period of time) becomes the newest racer and the street racer is now a Police Car. If no-one busts the street racer, the closed police is automatically made the street racer by default.

Performance Classifications
Each car is unique in its shape and driving style. However, in-order to display the performance of each car there is a three-part system.
Acceleration – This refers to cars which are quick of the start. Cars which have high acceleration are able to maintain a high speed while at the same time, keeping control of the car. Acceleration can be described as quick cars which are able to get to high RPMs but are not suited to truly utilize them.
Top Speed – This refers to cars which are extremely fast. Those which are able to stay at high RPMs and make use of them by reaching truly amazing speeds. Cars with top speed do not do well at lower RPMs and gears … as they have slow start of speeds.
Handling and Steering – This refers to cars with exceptional capabilities to turn corners with the smallest amount of ease. Cars with high handling are able to take most corners without large amounts of speed loss.
Automobile Classes
There are 57 cars which are available to be driven in Need For Speed Carbon. These are available either offline and online … however … certain cars are only available for online use only. Cars in Need For Speed Carbon can be divided into three categories …
Tuner – These cars lack “Top Speed” but have exceptional “Handling and Steering”. Tuner cars have a decent “Acceleration”.
Exotic – Exotic cars can be described as the “Better of two Greats” in terms of characteristics of cars. Exotic cars have exceptional “Acceleration” and “Handling and Steering” and also have a decent “Top Speed”. However … the steering capabilities of an exotic are not as great as those of the Tuners and the top speed cannot compare to that of a Muscle Car.
Muscle – The fastest and loudest cars of Carbon. These cars boast massive amounts of torque and exhaust on the streets as they tear up the road. Muscle cars are known for their extremely large “Top Speed”. What Muscle cars make up for speed … they lose in steering which, some makes of the muscles cars seem almost impossible to turn corners.
Automobile Tiers
In Need For Speed Carbon there has been a revolution in the way that cars are further classed. These are known as Tiers.
Tier One – Tier One cars are beginner cars. These are not highly regarded by racers and cannot compete with others in higher classes.
Tier Two – Tier Two cars are Middle Class cars. These are common throughout many street racers.
Tier Three – Tier Three cars are the Crème-De-La-Crème of street racing automobiles. They include the very best models of each class and are generally the most expensive. These cars are driven by truly gifted racers.
A general rule applies to Tiers. Performance parts are available for specific Tier cars only. E.g. A Tier 2 Turbo cannot be applied to a Tier 3 car and vice versa.

Preferred Automobiles and Tuning Specifications
Preferred Tier Automobiles
One of the most asked questions is “What is the best car per Tier, to use?” Although there are no specific car(s) which will guarantee you success, there are a select few which will give you that competitive edge. Here is a list of the cars which I have found out, are the best car to use for the different race styles throughout the game.
Tier One Car – Alfa Romero Brera (Exotic)
Tier Two Car – Porsche Cayman S
Tier Three Car (Overall) – Lamborghini Murcielago & Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
Tier Three Car (Drift) – Toyota Supra & Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR Edition
Tier Three Car (Professionals Only) – Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (Tuned Specifically as Specified Below)
Tier One Car (Online) – Nissan 240SX
Tier Two Car (Online) – Porsche Cayman S
Tier Three Car (Online) – Audi LeMans Quattro
Tier Three Car (Professionals Only) – Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (Tunes Specifically as Specified Below)
Specific Tuning for Chevrolet Corvette Z06
The majority racers online in Need For Speed Carbon dominate the roads of Palmont City with either an Audi LeMans Quattro or a Chevrolet Corvette Z06. The Audi LeMans provides the ultimate car, with incredible speed, braking and excellent handling. However, the Corvette Z06, if tuned correctly will allow you to reach incredible speeds which the Audi will never reach. The following tuning specifics will allow you to tune your automobile to maximize speed and also gain some extra handling. Note: I am using all the best Tier Three Performance Parts. These are “Race Performance Packages”
Engine: Slider all the way to the left (Torque)
Transmission: Slider all the way to the right (Top Speed)
Suspension: Slide all the way to the left (Oversteer)
Nitrous: Slider all the way to the left (Velocity)
Tires: Slider all the way to the left (Drift)
Brakes: Slider all the way to the right (Front Bias)
Supercharger: Slider all the way to the right (High RPM)

The sub crews which run in Palmont are:
– Inferno
– Rotor4
– Los Colibris
– Black Hearts
– Kings
– Scorpios
Territories
In Career Mode, the city of Palmont is divided into territories. The territories are owned by crews. In order reclaim territory you must win races. However, as you win other territories, crews will return to take back what was theirs. It is up to you to re-race and take the area back again.
Bosses
Each of the four main Crews are run ultimately by a Boss. The Bosses are as follows
– Bushido – Kenji
– 21st Street – Angie
– T.F.K. – Wolf

Five-O, Heat and Police Pursuits
One of the game modes that makes Need For Speed Carbon different to any-other is Free-Roam Police, Heat Levels *and Police Pursuits.
Heat Levels
The more you race in a specific area/territory, the allocated Heat Level will increase. Heat Levels determine which level of Police will be used. As the Heat Level increases, better performance vehicles will be used to hopefully stop you. The following list shows you which Heat uses which level of service, which car the Police drive and the techniques which will be used by the authorities. It should be noted, that as the Heat increases, the more difficult it will be to evade the pursuit but, you will rack up a much higher amount of bounty in a much shorter time.
Heat One – Police Cruiser (Officially Ford Crown Victoria)
Heat Two – Undercover Police Cruiser (Officially Ford Crown Victoria)
Heat Three – Holden Monaro/Pontiac GTO
Heat Four – Undercover Holden Monaro/Pontiac GTO
Heat Five – Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Heat Six – Undercover Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Heat Seven – All Police Vehicles, Including Police SUV Rhino (Turbo Charged)
Five-O
If you are not in your safe-house, chances are that you will be either in a race or driving in free-roam. As you drive, your actions will determine whether the police will be alerted to follow you. Police are alerted whenever you destroy/damage property of the state (such as walk-way scenery and civilian vehicles). In addition, the higher your Heat is, the higher the chances that the police will be alerted. In addition, after you drive in free-roam for a prolonged period of time, you will notice that the police will begin to drive throughout the streets … simply patrolling the area. If your Heat Level is between 1-3, they will not engage in a pursuit unless they see you in violation of one of the eight infractions. However, if your Heat Level is 4 or above, the police will engage in a pursuit immediately. To evade from the police (before a pursuit has been initiated) simply enter a Safe-House or Car Dealership. You can enter reduce your Heat Level by either customizing your car, racing with another car or by entering “Car Select” in your Safe-House and reducing your Heat there.
Police Pursuits
Once a police authority sees you breaking an infraction, they will initiate a pursuit. Police pursuits can start both during a race or, in free-roam. Before I explain the nature of pursuits and methods on how to evade them, I will explain some of the commonly used terms.
Pursuit Breakers – These are locations throughout the city which when driven through, will create a diversion/event, which will result in following police vehicles either being destroyed, or stopping in order to provide assistance to other vehicles. In order to maximize the effect of these Pursuit Breakers, plan your route so that you can hit them when the police vehicles are right behind you. There is no use in wasting a pursuit breaker when there are no cars present or close enough for the breaker to take effect.
Back-Up – After time has elapsed police cars will eventually drop-out of the pursuit. Similarly, as you immobilize/destroy police vehicles, the amount of cars which are chasing you will fall. In order to keep the pursuit going, the police will call for “Back-Up”. In Back-Up, the police will call for more units. Once the police call for Back-Up, a timer will begin and at the end of that time, additional units will re-join the pursuit. When the police call for Back-Up, you should aim to enter Cool down Mode immediately. If you re-enter a pursuit during Cooldown Mode, and before you entered Cooldown, there was a Back-Up timer, the timer will re-appear. The higher the Heat Level, the less time it takes for re-enforcements to arrive. In addition, the higher the Heat Level, the more units will join the pursuit if the timer is completed.
Cooldown Mode – Once you are out of the line-of-sight of any police authority, you will enter “Cooldown Mode”. In order to evade the pursuit you MUST enter Cooldown Mode and stay in an area until the meter has completely filled-up. If, at any point, the police re-find you, you will re-enter the pursuit and are therefore liable to be arrested. You must then again, re-enter the Cooldown Mode and start again in filling up the meter. The higher the Heat Level, the longer the time it will take for the Cooldown Meter to completely fill.
Cooldown Areas – Once you have entered the Cooldown Mode, the map will present to you “Cooldown Areas”. These are shown as blue circles on the map. When you park your car in a Cooldown Area, the Cooldown meter will fill quickly. These areas are out-of-sight and the police will, a majority of the time, not spot you if you are parked in one. Cooldown Areas will generally be positioned behind big walls or in car parks. In some cases, if you are not followed by a police car, but not in a Cooldown mode, you can park your car in a Cooldown Area (if you can remember where they are) and the police will not see you.
In a pursuit, the Heat Level will determine the skill difficulty of the police, the tactics used in the pursuit to stop your vehicle, the amount of police vehicles that will be used and the difficulty of escaping the chase.
So, once you have been engaged in a pursuit, you must drive around the city, using “Pursuit Breakers” to damage the police vehicles, and hopefully knock off each car, one-by-one, until you can enter a “Cooldown Mode” and eventually evade the pursuit.
As you spend more time in a pursuit, your Heat Level will slowly increase. The lowest being 1 and the highest (that you will encounter in Career Mode) is 5. The higher the Heat, the harder it will be for you to last in the pursuit, and ultimately evade it. In a pursuit, you should be aiming to achieve one of two goals …
1) Evade it immediately
2) Stay in the pursuit to stay in there long enough to reach enough bounty to unlock in-game content or achievement.
I must say, that whenever you are entered into a pursuit, that you MUST aim to evade it and not get caught. The goal to success is, to learn the locations of Pursuit Breakers, and then Cooldown Areas close by. Unlike Need For Speed Most Wanted, evading a pursuit, will take time and in most cases, you will not be able to evade it straight away (especially if you are in a Heat 3 or above). The following is a list of Pursuit Breakers which are close to Cooldown Areas, and if you use them appropriately, you can evade a pursuit.
1) Trucks which carry loads of cars, trucks or stone pipes. If you hit anyone of the tires the truck will release its load and this will result in an instant Pursuit Breaker. Trucks of this sort are found on highways and freeways.
2) Any Pursuit Breaker located close to an alleyway or underground car park
3) Streets that are used as shortcuts when in a race (if you decide to use this as a cooldown area, make sure no Police see you enter, and try to keep your car in the middle so that no Police can see your vehicle from either side.
As I said before, only use a Pursuit Breaker, when you have police vehicles close-by. You want to get as many as you can with the one hit.
So … plan your Pursuit Breakers well, know Cooldown Areas and be able to drive away from any sight from police whenever they may appear on the mini-map.
Infractions
The severity of you pursuit, and the extent of your damages, are determined by your “Infractions” and how many of them you break. They are as follows … and what you need to do in order to be fined with them.
Damage to Property – Damage of any sort, whenever you drive over or through public property (Such as road signs and property/buildings).
Driving Off Roadway – Driving out of the pavement or areas which are specified for driving (Such as parks).
Speeding – Driving over 150 miles per hour.
Excessive Speeding – Driving over 180 miles per hour.
Reckless Driving – Driving over 200 miles per hour.
Hit & Run – Damage to another civilian vehicle.
Ramming a Police Vehicle – Damage to a police vehicle.
Resisting Arrest – Entering a Cooldown Mode during a pursuit.
Getting Busted
There are only two results of a pursuit chase. You either evade the pursuit or get busted (caught). Whenever you evade the pursuit you will take with you the statistics of the chase. These statistics will include “Bounty” and “Police Vehicles Damaged” etc. In order for you to successfully unlock Pursuit Reward Cards and Achievements, you MUST evade the pursuit. If you however, are caught, the police will issue you a fine. The amount of money that you have to pay will be determined by:
a) Your Heat
b) Number of Infractions
c) Previously Evaded Pursuits
d) Extend of the Current Pursuit (Patrol Cars Destroyed, etc.)
When you are busted you can either Pay the Fine or use a Marker. When you use a marker the Police will ignore the entire pursuit and let all charges go. If you decide to pay with cash you will receive a “Strike” against your car. When you have a total of 3 Strikes on any one car it will be impounded. When you have no money to pay for the fine, or have no markers, your car will be impounded. When you get your last and final car impounded … Game Over!

Extras and Unlockables
As you reach higher Online Experience Points you will unlock more parts to your car. These parts include Body Parts to Vinyls … but do not include Performance Parts. You will however, unlock Bonus Cars time to time.
Online Racing – OXP and Extras
Career Mode is the ultimate test of a racer. When you race online you race the best. Therefore, it is necessary that you get some experience in driving before you take it to the top.
Online Experience Points
As you race online, and win races you will receive “Online Experience Points” or “OXP”. You will always receive OXP at the end of the race, as long as you do not come in last. The amount of points you receive will be determined by the position you come in a race. If you come in first, you will receive 40 OXP maximum for that race. Obviously the winner of a race will get more OXP than the person who comes in third. As you receive enough OXP you will increase in a level. The amount of OXP which you need to reach the next level is increased as your Online Experience Level increases. You can check your current total of Online Experience Points and Levels in the Statistics Menu in the Main Menu. The total amount of OXP needed to reach the next level is unknown.
Viruses
Another Frequently Asked Question is … “What are Viruses?”
What are Viruses?
Viruses are something which makes online that extra bit special. Viruses in no way, shape or form alter your performance. They are simply a “tag” that lets other racers know you have them. When you catch a virus you will unlock an Achievement and a Vinyl. A racer will not know that you have a virus unless they check out your Achievements and see it there. There are four viruses in total. Three are unlocked when you race an “Infected Racer” in a particular race. The Fourth is unlocked when you unlock all the other three vinyls.
How do I unlock the Viruses?
You unlock a Virus when you race an “infected” player in one of three allocated race types. These race types and the virus associated with them are as follows:
1) Pursuit Knockout – Knockout Fever
2) Pursuit Tag – Pursuit Pandemic
3) Canyon Duel – Canyon Craze
4) Carbon Plague – When you unlock all the above three viruses.
You do not need to win the race against the infected racer, you just need to finish it.
What about the Vinyls?
When you unlock a virus you will unlock a vinyl. These can be found in the Vinyls Customization area under “Virus”. All the four vinyls are unique body vinyls.
EA Moderators
One of the most talked about topic by all Need for Speed Carbon players is … Who are EA Moderators?
Who are EA Moderators?
Similar to the Xbox Forum Moderators are EA Moderators. They patrol the Need For Speed: Carbon Forums. They are also Xbox 360 Players. They race from time to time on Need for Speed: Carbon.
A complete list of current EA Moderators are as follows:

How can I Race an EA Moderator?
Whenever an EA Moderator is online and playing Need For Speed Carbon, it is up to you to get in the same lobby and race against them. They are not obliged to play online, so finding a Moderator online is difficult, finding one playing NFS Carbon and in a Ranked Race is even harder. The key is continually monitoring their process and seeing when they play online. When a EA Moderator is racing in a “Player/Unranked” Match, you are able to “Join In Progress” if there is enough space in the lobby.
Getting the Achievement
To unlock the EA Moderator Achievement, you need to beat an EA Moderator in an online race. You do not need to come first in the race, as long as your finishing position is higher than the Moderator’s. Obviously if it is 1-vs-1 you need to come first against the Moderators. However, unlocking the Achievement or Reward Card, will take multiple wins or races because they may not unlock instantly.
Friend Requests and Messages
Being in high demand, EA Moderators receive dozens of Friend Requests and Messages from other Xbox 360 players. It is therefore highly unlikely, that you will ever get a response from one if you try to communicate with them. So … don’t try and you won’t be disappointed.
Final Moderator Tips
To get the Achievement you needed to race them in an Unranked Race online. To get the Reward Card you need to race them in a Ranked Race. Moderators play Ranked Matches most often. There is never a set time/date when they will be online. Only a few Moderators play NFS Carbon online anymore so, check the list continually and do not wait for another opportunity.
Unlocking Achievements
Need for Speed: Carbon has a total of 50 Achievements totaling to 1000 Gamerpoints. Unfortunately, one of the achievements is unlockable. The following explains how to unlock all the Achievements.
Need For Speed – (20 Gamerpoints) – Hit 230 MP/H in a Speedtrap. This is also 370KP/H approximately. This can be achieved on the Speedtrap track named “Stonewall Tunnel”. To do this easily, you can go to “Quick Race” and select this track. Use either the Audi LeMans Quattro or a Tuned Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (using the Tuning Specifications as I have instructed earlier). Pick your Crew Member to be a “Drafter” … I recommend Nikki but any Drafter will do. Drive as you would (without NOS) for the first three Speedtraps. Now, as you are approaching the exit of the Tunnel or Underpass hit the “Y” button to activate your Crew Member (and at this point they should be ready to use). As you successfully re-enter the road after the exit hit the NOS. Stay at in their drift (they will speed up as you use your NOS). You will then be able to hit the fourth Speedtrap at the speed you are reaching. NOTE: I cannot stress enough, Do Not Hit ANYTHING as you enter your crew member’s drift, you want to increase your speed and not decrease it. Now, complete the race and you will have the reward card. For ease … use the Audi LeMans Quattro, it allows for better turning. If you do not succeed … try again, this method works. If you cannot unlock this achievement with the Audi LeMans Quattro, use the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
Drift King – (10 Gamerpoints) – Score 500, 000 points in a Drift race. To unlock this Reward Card, you will need to have access to a Toyota Supra and the Drift track named “Billings District” or “Main Street Drift”. You will then need to tune your Supra to the best of all Performance Parts on Tier Three. Do not worry on customizing its looks … it will not help at all. Now, you will need to be able to keep your drifts connected and stay in the end zones as much as possible. To do this easily, make sure your speed is in the “Blue” region of the speed bar. A higher speed will allow you to drift easier. Learning how to drift is hard to explain in words, so you will get excellent if you practice. Keep at it … you will eventually unlock it.
Race Week – (15 Gamerpoints) – Complete an Online race during Race Week. For more information check the “FAQ” Section in this Guide.
Head Start (Secret Achievement) – (25 Gamerpoints) – Win an Online race at York Road (Sprint) after giving your opponents a 10 second head start.
Showboat – (25 Gamerpoints) – Cross the finish line in reverse to win an Online Ranked Match. You must cross the line in reverse in first place.
Complete Career – (50 Gamerpoints) – Complete Career Mode. You do not need to complete ALL races to unlock this Achievement.

Unlocking Reward Cards
Another essential part of Need for Speed Carbon is “Reward Cards”. These are “sub-achievements”, and are grouped in sets of four. Each set of four Reward Cards, will unlock a piece of the game (such as a Spoiler or Vinyl). The following details how to unlock the Reward Cards … both Offline and Online.
Disabling Cars – In order to disable a police car you need to render it useless … do this by ramming it in the back half of the car (on the side) or by knocking over a pursuit breaker when there are multiple police cars behind you. As the Heat Level increases, it will be more difficult to destroy police vehicles without the use of a Pursuit Breaker.
Money Balance – You must have at least 1 million dollars in Career Mode at once. To do this you must set back on unnecessary spending. Alternatively, you may download the “Supreme Car Bundle” from the Xbox Marketplace and then download the “Performance Engine Boost Bundle”. This will allow you to buy cars in the game for free while using a set of free performance parts that will allow you to win races in Career Mode easier.
Free Roam Challenges – You will encounter “Free Roam” Challenges (a point to point race with you verses a rival racer) as you simply drive around in Free Roam. You will get one Free Roam Challenge at least once as you travel from race to race or from Car Lot to Garage and visa versa. However, you must drive for approximately a minute for someone to appear. You can encounter a Free Roam Challenge when you are completing and have completed Career Mode. You are able to unlock the Reward Card … but not the Achievement attached to it.
Quick Races – Simply go to “Quick Race” in the Main Menu and complete as many of the short length races until you unlock the Reward Card(s).
Speedtrap – This can be achieved on the Speedtrap track named “Stonewall Tunnel”.
Hire all Crews – Simply complete Career Mode and gain access to them all. Then, all you need to do is “Hire” them. This can be done in your Garage. You will unlock your last Crew Member at Nikki.
Drift – To unlock this Reward Card, you will need to have access to a Toyota Supra and the Drift track named “Billings District” or “Main Street Drift”.
Fill Garage – This can be easily done without spending real or actual money. To do this, download the “Supreme Car Bundle” for FREE off the Xbox Marketplace. This pack contains one of each Car Type. Take the Volkswagon Golf R32 and head to the car lot. This car will be free at the car lot. Buy enough to fill the remaining spots in your garage. Then, head back to the garage and delete the car that you used to get to the car lot. Delete it, then head to the car lot and buy one more Tuner car from the Bundle you just downloaded. Complete this step with another Muscle (Ford Mustang GT) and Exotic Car (Aston Martin DB9) to unlock the other similar achievements.
Raise Your Heat – The Heat Level you can access is directly determined to how far you have progressed in Career Mode. In the first territory you can only get to Heat Two. In the other two territories you can access up to Heat Four. However, once you access the Red Territory (Silverton) you will gain access to Heat Five.
Download Shadow Car – Enter “Quick Race”. Select any track and enter the Options Menu. Scroll down to “Shadow Option” and highlight “Current Leader’s Shadow” then press “A”. This will download the Shadow Car Time for you. This is will unlock the Reward Card is the download successfully completes itself.
Use Photo Mode – Firstly sign-into “EA Nation”. Once you have done that, either enter “My Cars” or “Customization” in your Garage and Press “Left Bumper (LB)” to enter Photo Mode. Take the photograph, upload it and there you go. Alternatively, you can press “START” in Free-Roam or in a Career Race and enter Photo Mode through there.
Winning Streak – Due to the fact that is can only be preformed in a RANKED Online race … I recommend that you get into a race with a friend (using “Finding Friends in Ranked Matches”) in a Ranked Match and allow yourselves to win. This is more guaranteed than going online and winning with skill.
25 Wins in a Certain Race Type – This is very strenuous. You will need to spend a considerable amount of time as you will need to do 25 Ranked Matches in the specified race. Attempt to use the “Find Friends in Ranked Matches” Method and go from there.

Frequently Asked Questions
Clearing the Hard Drive Cache
A common troubleshooting step will involve “Clearing the Cache of your Hard Drive”. This involves deleting the “Internet History” of your Hard Drive and this will result in all game updates and patches being deleted (but do not worry … when you place the game in and load it, it will automatically download the update). You can clear the cache by completing the following steps …
1) Make sure you are in the Xbox 360 Dashboard
2) Press “Left” on the control stick until you get to the System Blade.
3) Press “Down” on the control stick until you get to “Memory”.
4) Press “A” on “Memory”
5) When you do this you will have a list of your Hard Drive or Memory Card(s) attached to your console
6) Highlight the Hard Drive and Press “Y”.
7) You will then see a Menu Screen of the following options … “Format” and “Rename”.
8) Press, in this menu, “X”, “X”, “LB”, “RB”, “X”, “X” in that order
9) If successful a message will come up asking to “Perform Maintenance on Storage Device”.
10) Press “A”.
11) You have now successfully “Cleared the Cache”
12) You can start the sequence of buttons pressed from the start without exiting and entering … just re-enter the buttons as stated in order again.
Finding Friends in Ranked Matches
Inviting a friend is not possible in Online Ranked Matches. However, there are some steps which you may take to hopefully increase the change of finding your friend in a Ranked Match. This method will work a majority of the time.
1) Get a Friend to Enter the Lobby of a Ranked Match.
2) Enter “Custom Race” and set the track type to “Circuit”, track to “Liberty Square” and Max Tier “Tier Two”.
3) Wait for your friend to become the editor of the lobby.
4) Once he is able to edit the Race Settings, give them the requirements that you have set for yourself.
5) Allow them to “Search for Players”
6) As he/she presses “START” to search for players, you press “START” to find a match. The two settings should match up and you should enter the lobby with your friend.
7) The nature of the track is long, and because it is a Circuit with Tier One cars, the other people in the lobby will eventually quit. (This may take some turns)
8) If people continue to stay in the lobby, just set the track options to the same ones as I stated until eventually only you are left with your friend.
9) As people quit be sure to restrict the Max Number of Players to “2” … so that only you and your friend can play together without other unwanted gamers joining you.
10) Complete the race and then you are free to do whatever you like (as long as everyone apart from you two have left).
Money Making Tip
Need For Speed Carbon is much different to Need for Speed Most Wanted, especially in making money. In NFS Carbon, money is difficult to make. The following method can be used to make money for Career Mode. This may require you to spend either 80 Microsoft or for FREE depending on where you live and the Locale of your Console.
1) Download the “Supreme Car Bundle”.
2) Buy the Aston Martin multiple times for your Career Garage. NOTE: Because you have downloaded it, it will be for free in Career Mode.
3) Save the game and return to the Dashboard.
4) Go to the “System” Tab in the Dashboard and enter the “Memory” tab.
5) Go down to the “Need for Speed Carbon” game and enter it.
6) Go to the pack that you have downloaded and delete it. NOTE: This will be for free when you go back to download it later on.
6) Enter the game again. Enter your Safe-House in Career.
7) Sell the recently bought cars. NOTE: These can now be sold for cash because the game has no record of you having the downloaded pack and therefore the car will now be worth money.
8) If you would like to repeat this process, continue the Steps from 1 – 7.
9) When repeated enough times, you will get the $1 million and the achievement.
NOTE: Make sure that the car you are about to download and use for the “Money Making Tip” is one which you have ALREADY UNLOCKED IN CAREER MODE. Otherwise, the method will not work.

8) Is there a method that I can use to make in-game money quickly?
Yes. Check the section “Money Making Tip” above. It has a method that is fool-proof.
9) Can I invite a friend into an online race?
Yes, but this is only available in an Unranked match.
10) Why is it that I cannot change the race settings (such as number of laps) in an online race?
You cannot change race settings (such as number of laps) in a Ranked Match. In a Ranked Match you may only change the race type and track as well as the Max Tier of Cars to be used and number of players allowed in a lobby. In an Unranked match you can change all the settings of an online race.
11) I raced an EA Moderator, and I have yet to get the Achievement?
Once you have successfully beaten an EA Moderator in an online race, you will need to complete more races (with the Moderator in the lobby) and then you will unlock the Reward Card and Achievement. You need to beat an EA Moderator in an Unranked race only to unlock the Achievement, but you need to beat an EA Moderator in a Ranked match to unlock the Reward Card. However, there are some cases where beating an EA Moderator in Unranked will unlock both the Achievement and Reward Card.
12) What are Race Weeks? When is the next one?
Race Weeks are weeks which are devoted for the Need for Speed Carbon community to play online. There is no set date or time. To unlock this achievement, you will need to complete at least one race online during a race week. If you complete an online race once a week you will unlock the achievement soon enough.
13) What are “Race Nights”? When is the next one?
Race Nights was an idea set up by EA to give players a reason to race online. Unlike Race Weeks, there is no real benefit to wining or participating in one. Just enjoy them.
14) When I try to find a match, there is nothing I can enter. Is no-one online and playing this game anymore?
No, you may find that excessive amounts of gamers playing on the Need for Speed Carbon servers will result in a lag when finding games. Be patient, you will find a game eventually. There will not be a time, for a while where people will not be playing this game online anymore.
15) How can I restart Career Mode without losing all my Reward Cards? Similarly, what happens when my final car is Impounded?
Simply, to start Career Mode again, on the same alias, without losing all your Reward Cards, sell all but one of your Career Cards. Take that final car and do whatever it takes to get it impounded. This will force you to re-start Career Mode again, on the same alias. Repeating it again, when your final car is impounded, you will be forces to re-start Career Mode again, but you will still have your Reward Cards.
16) I have been racing for a while, winning races, gaining OXP, yet I still have not progresses up an Online Experience Level. What is wrong?
This is not your fault. This may be caused by either by a “lag” or “down-time” in the EA Nation Servers. Continue racing, it may eventually level up. However, in some cases, your level will not increase due to a glitch.
17) For the Pursuit Fine Reward Card, must that be in one or overall?
That is an overall fine over the time of Career Mode. Raise the fine by breaking more infractions.
